These certainly stop sliding dishes. Our bowls peak over the top of the holder and we weren't sure how that would go. Notice how many plates we have stacked and still have room for a larger serving dish.

We don't add any layers of paper towel or liner material between the plates and bowls and they travel EXCELLENT in these travel trays. Plan to use these holders in RV. I had to buy 2 sets to get the set up I wanted and now I have an extra plate holder I'll never use and paid premium. Wonderful!
